FAQ's

FAQ's have been updated. When do FAQ's get updated? When I get new questions (or in some cases, accusations) through my contact page.

1. Do you have a complete list of all PBBG's?
With the exception of strats (strategy) and MUDS, yes. I keep a Mammoth PBBG List that I use to keep track of which games have been submitted and considering for my list of best PBBG’s.

2. Why don't you include strategy games and muds?
Most other PBBG sites already focus on either strats or MUDS exclusively. Very few sites (good luck finding them) focus on RPG PBBG's the way I do. In fact, when looking at other sites, their lists are long but no effort is given to distinguish between a MUD, a strategy game, or an RPG PBBG. Many sites don't even distinguish between a single player browser based RPG versus an MMORPG browser game. So you end up spending hours looking through every post just trying to find the type of PBBG you are interested in, much less the best.

3. Some of the games you list have bad graphics. Why not rank some of the more graphical PBBG's?
I'll rank the games that I think are the best, with or without graphics. This is because the visual appearance of a game represents only one aspect of a game. I like nice graphics too, but I consider depth of game play an even greater factor. Deep games with rich content retain my attention much longer than shallow games with great art. Great graphics are good too, as long as it's married to good content.

4. How can I post a game to your site?
I'm not looking for suggestions for PC Games, but you are welcome to suggest a PBBG because they can be harder to find.

5. What happened to the Crane & Dragon PBBG site?
This is the Crane & Dragon site, it's simply been skinned with a new look and domain name. All pages from the old site redirects here. This site also includes a list of my favorite PC games but the focus is and will always be on browser MMO's, provided they still exist.

6. So you are the same owner as the former Crane & Dragon site?
Yes. This isn't a change in ownership, this is just an improvement to the site, and it happens to include a Domain too. I'm still not 100% sold on the name so I might change it yet again and if I decide on that, then every page here will redirect to the new page of the new site in the same way that I did with the former Crane & Dragon site. I.E. all bookmarks will still be valid.

7. Did you really play every PBBG on your Mammoth list?
No. Some games resulted in a 404 error, some games have been discontinued, and some games have been abandoned. When arriving at a PBBG site for the first time. I look for clues that might indicate that the game is not worth further consideration. For example, some games were started but never finished, there might be a copyright notice from 1999 and the last news entry from 2000. When there are forums I check them for activity, a 4 year old game with 46 posts will not generally get further attention from me unless it appears that it simply has not been promoted well (I'm a big fan of hidden gems). Some games are hosted poorly, have annoying pop-ups, or both. Some games contain no information, having only a sign-up form and nothing else. I usually consider those games unplayable so I don't even bother.

8. Is it possible that you may have misjudged a game?
Of course! If you think I have misjudged a game, then prompt me to give it a second look.

9. Can I help with the site?
It's possible. I've had content providers in the past but none of them had the time to stick around. If you are interested in helping with the site then contact me and we can discuss it.

10. My game is on your Mammoth list but not on your ranked lists. Does this mean my game is bad?
Not necessarily. The Mammoth list includes all known PBBG's. It is a list of the good and the bad. The ranked lists contains only the best. There are literally hundreds of PBBG's out there that are good games, but just didn't qualify for what I consider to be the cream of the crop.

11. What standards do you use to determine whether or not to list a PBBG?
A summary of our listing standards can be found here. A more detailed explanation can be found here.

12. I found a game on your retired list, but it's still active.
A PBBG can be retired for many reasons. The domain may have been sold, parked, or cancelled expired. The project may have been abandonment. In some cases the developers may have switched over to an application based version of game and the original can no longer be played in a browser. Once a game lands on the retirement page, I don't go through this list to see if a game has been brought back from the dead so feel free to update me on the status of a revived game if you wish.

0. Nine of eight is your folly, but this is ten, so don't be a Molly.
